Shear Analysis of Thin Steel Plate Shear Walls

ABSTRACT

In recent years, thin steel plate shear walls (TSPSWs) have been used as lateral load resisting system. In this paper an analytical model of TSPSWs is proposed that can be used for designing. This model describes the effect of interaction between the frame and the thin plate on the state of the tensile stress distribution in the diagonal tension field and is able to properly predict the overall behaviour of the TSPSWs. Therefore, the proposed model can be readily incorporated in practical nonlinear analyses of structures with TSPSWs. The accuracy of the predicted response by the proposed analytical method is demonstrated through comparisons with experimental results.
