ABSTRACT
This paper presents a new concept in steel bi-directional corrugated core sandwich structures. The focus is on the study of the structural response of beam under flexural load using numerical method. A finite element method is used to investigate the stiffness and strength behaviours of the presented sandwich beam with bi-directional corrugated-strip core. It is used along with the force and distortion relationship of three-point loaded beam to derive stiffness of beam. The presented finite element model is consistent with other existing theoretical solutions. It is used to assess the performance of the proposed sandwich beam. The effects of varying sandwich core topology and geometric parameters on the structural response are also compared and discussed.
