ABSTRACT

In this study, a sequentially coupled thermal-stress analysis was conducted for a set of high strength steel plate-to-plate joints with chord plate dimensions of 440mm×150mm and brace plate dimension of 420mm×150mm. Joints with different skewed angles and plate thicknesses were analyzed. A detailed modelling procedure was illustrated for residual stress analysis. Thermal-Stress modelling considerations, such as material nonlinearities and boundary nonlinearities, were specified. Finally, the numerical results were compared with the results obtained from experimental studies.
