ABSTRACT

This paper presents an experimental investigation and theoretical prediction on the performance of flush end-plate connections connected to the column web. Column and beam sections of different size were combined to form five connection specimens with various geometrical configurations. The moment resistance of experimental results were predicted as the moment developed at a rotation of 50 mRad and compare with the method proposed by Gomes’ formulae. It can be concluded that connection with geometrical parameters of bolt holes closer to the column flange or connected beam with wider flange tends to have higher moment resistance of the connection. The prediction of the moment resistance agrees well with the Gomes’ formualae as the ratio of Mj,Rd at 50 mRad/ MGomes is very close to 1.0. For test specimens with excessive rotation under testing, the moment resistances of the connections (MJ,exp) are taken as the applied moment at a rotation of 0.05 radians, or 50 mRad.
