Parametric Studies on Bonded CFRP-Steel Connection

ABSTRACT

This paper presents the parametric studies on bonded CFRP-steel connection. The effects of overlap length, adhesive thickness and surface preparation procedure were analysed in terms of maximum shear stress that was obtained from pull-out tensile test. Results show that the overlap length of 8 to 10 times the adherend thickness with 1mm to 3mm adhesive thickness give maximum shear capacity in the joint. The combination grinding wheel, wire brushing and solvent cleaning increases the effectiveness of surface preparation procedures.
