ABSTRACT

The present study is concerned with the influence of interlayer slip on the load carrying capacity of composite plate girders. Four girders subjected to single concentrated load at midspan are considered in the investigation. In particular, analytical solutions were carried out based on force equilibrium and curvature compatibility from which, general expressions for slip and slip-induced deflection were derived accounting for tension field action in the webs. The degree of interaction was varied to examine its influence on the strength of the girders. In addition, the accuracy of the method was validated against the corresponding results from non-linear finite element analysis using LUSAS package. Comparisons for ultimate load show good agreement.
