ABSTRACT

The LiteSteel Beam (LSB) is a cold-formed channel section with hollow flanges. The compression behaviour of LSB stub columns with web openings was explored. Experimental investigations were conducted on 25 specimens with varying circular hole sizes and their transverse locations. The results show that webs penetrations did not have a significant impact on the compression section capacity of the LSBs, either by varying hole sizes or the location transversely. Nevertheless, a 30% reduction in the ultimate compression capacity was observed when 97% of the web width was removed, which corresponds to the extreme case of web penetrations.
