ABSTRACT

This paper reports the results of an ongoing numerical investigation on the buckling, post-buckling, collapse and design of three-span cold-formed steel lipped channel beams subjected to uniformly distributed loads acting on several span combinations. A design approach for such beams, based on the existing Direct Strength Method (DSM) expressions, is also proposed and assessed, by comparing its ultimate load predictions with “exact” numerical (shell finite element) values.
