ABSTRACT
An experimental study of cold-formed steel wall frames anchored at base corners and sheathed with calcium silicate board under monotonic shear and cyclic loads is presented in this paper. The test specimens were assembled with two different thicknesses of calcium silicate board, 9 mm and 12 mm, and one-side or two-side of sheathing attachment. The monotonic shear and cyclic loads are applied through the MTS testing machine. Test results show that the wall frames with two-side calcium silicate board provide higher lateral resistance than those attached with one-side sheathing. In addition, the thicker of the calcium silicate board sheathing is used, the higher shear resisting strength of wall frames is obtained. There was a slight difference of tested ultimate loads for test specimens subjected to either monotonic shear load or cyclic load. In summary, the failure type, maximum load, and ductility ratio of test wall frames are discussed in detail and conclusions are made.
