ABSTRACT

Using GBT and SFE analyses, a study on the web crippling strength of cold-formed steel beams is presented in this paper. Beams with plain channel section and displaying the standard loading and support configurations (EOF, IOF, ETF, ITF) are studied. Based on the (i) critical loads and (ii) 1st order plastic collapse loads, the Rankine formula is shown to estimate fairly well the web crippling loads, when compared with numerical and experimental values.
