ABSTRACT

In this paper, experimental work was shown on FMLs subjected to projectile impact and blast. 3-D nonlinear finite element models were then developed to simulate impact and blast responses of FMLs investigated. The rate-dependent plastic damage and Johnson-Cook failure criteria were used to simulate on-set damage and subsequent damage evolution of aluminium subjected to impact and blast, respectively. Reasonably good correlation is obtained between the simulated and experimental results. Contribution of the aluminium in FMLs on impact resistance and perforation energy was also assessed and discussed.
