ABSTRACT

The object of the paper is to highlight some of the recent research activities on steel-concrete composite construction that finds increasingly wide applications, particularly in tall buildings. Principle of composite construction is explained briefly first followed by an account of the developments that have taken place in the past. Research findings on composite construction that include double-skin composite construction, in-filled columns, plate girders and connections are presented. In addition, an innovative composite profiled steel sheet-dry board system, as opposed to the traditional steel-concrete composite system is presented. Brief description of design codes, with special reference to Eurocode 4 for composite construction is presented.
