ABSTRACT

Steel beam-to-column connections are an integral part of the frames and their behavior greatly affects the overall frame performance. Typical steel beam-to-column fastening connections are composed of deformable parts such as angles, plates, welds, bolts and so on. In this paper, a new kind of assembly steel tube frame with the mortise and tenon semi-rigid joint is proposed. The plane frame models along the two directions are made and the loading tests are conducted respectively to investigate their mechanical behaviors. The nonlinear moment and rotation curves for the mortise and tenon joints and the load-displacement curves of the semi-rigid frame are obtained by the analysis of the experimental data and FE analysis results. Modeling of the spring of null dimension to represent the stiffness of the mortise and tenon joint at each end of the element, the mortise and tenon joint connection frame is analyzed and then the bending moment diagram of the frame is illustrated.
