ABSTRACT

Over the past few decades, no general consensus has been attained by key stakeholders about the emphasis of perception on construction success, especially for design-and-build (D&B) public Hospital construction projects (public-Hosp). By using a set of success criteria (SC) which was determined earlier, the objective of this research is to empirically study the differences of emphasis between client and D&B contractor perceptions towards the success of public-Hosp in Malaysia. Two approaches are used to differentiate the tendency of perception emphasis towards SC measures first, by ranking of mean value and second, through t-test. It was found that 15 measures were noted to have a high level of significant value for more than 0.05 (5%) or a confident interval 0.95 (95%) with the range of 0.138 to 0.997 of significant value. This is because of certain advantages in SC measures towards client and D&B contractor’s satisfaction. The major limitation of the study shown that the key players of the project are always changed and then most of the projects were 95% completed. In nature, construction project is a project basis with temporary organization therefore, extra effort should be emphasized to enhance the quality of the data gathered and more research should be done towards overcoming the issues which are still growing concurrent with the development.
