ABSTRACT

The research project carries out a contribution to open up an innovation potential in protection of health and safety at work. It is an application-oriented research in the field of safety management and in occupational health and safety using information and communication technology. In this research, a tool is being developed to capture life cycle data of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) by which health and safety at workplaces can be improved across all industries. PPE life cycle data refers to its functional and operational capability information that can be identified using sensors and RFID technology. Having this information on hand, it can be decided whether the PPE has exceeded its lifetime or any external influences has destroyed its functionality for further usage with its full protection ability. This information will consequently promote personnel’s health and safety at work.
