ABSTRACT
The project’s aim was to investigate and analyse the different phases of construction at several
different sites having concrete structures, in different locations and with different uses. In order
to be able to do this study, a system of data-gathering was created to consider the specific
conditions of the building sector in Italy, highlighting the aspects of “productivity” and “safety
management” as the principal parameters. The results of the research were intended to be
useful in the creation of a model for the investigation into the management of construction
sites, especially for the personnel concerned with the execution of concrete works. The investigation
took place in Italy and is based on the experiences of the research group over many
years. This “monitoring project” has led to a better understanding of the linkages between
production, use, and the technical and economic management of formworks. It has illustrated
the importance of a correct decision making/implementation of design, and the subsequent use
of site clearing works matching construction management capabilities, to yield safe day-by-day
working conditions, not just theoretically, but with the capability to measure them with the
contractors, both general and sub. Analysis of survey results has shown that cooperation and
synergy between project members from the inception of the project has yielded better project
results in terms of economies, techniques, quality and safety. Design and organizational choices
and the understanding that changes may result in delays as well as improvements, result from
project, technical, qualitative, logistical and typology have been noted.
