ABSTRACT
In a religious building in recent decades had shown a phenomenon of warping of the wooden
support of a decorated lacunar. Monitoring had shown the weight of the wooden structure
resulted in a subdued but still inflection in the central hall of the church that overlooked the
very busy during the festive celebrations. The posting of somemolding and fall of plaster caused
the closure of the building and the need for urgent action. What intervention techniques could
be implemented to safeguard the decorations on the ceiling and ensuring the usability of the
building? The study of the structure of the church, rebuilt after the devastating earthquake of
1908 with the use of reinforced concrete, has guided the choices towards a solution, using some
elements of support reinforced concrete beams allowed the blocking of the phenomenon of
instability and the possibility of carrying out periodicmaintenance. In the garret were resting on
the extrados of reinforced concrete beams support a series of steel cables to stop the deformation.
The safety of the ceiling structure was preceded by a careful review of timber structures with
consolidation or replacement of the most degraded. The management of the site has seen the
application of all the safety measures provided by law with a focus on time management to
ensure the possibility of having to use the rooms after hours.
