ABSTRACT

This paper deals with the thermal degradation of two kinds of plywood, one certified M1 and another M3, in a cone Calorimeter at heat fluxes of 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70 kW/m2. The mass loss and the time to ignition have been measured. During the experiments, the gas was continuously analysed with a HORIBA-PG250 analyser, to quantify CO, CO2, NOx emissions and oxygen consumption during the degradation process. The main purpose of this work was to define the different stages of thermal degradation and to estimate the ignitability and combustibility parameters of plywood. These results are used to develop a thermal degradation mechanism of plywoods.

Keywords: Thermal degradation, Pyrolysis, Combustion.
