ABSTRACT
A computational methodology is described for practical, engineering investigation of industrial explosive devices. The methodology is applied to the safety evaluation of an existing avalanche release system, demonstrating that, on the basis of worst-case scenario assumptions, the proposed combination of simplified, accurate chemistry modeling for the combustion processes and CFD and structural FEA calculations can be used successfully to validate the safety of industrial systems within reasonable turnaround times.
