ABSTRACT

Hot air layer induced by a fire was studied experimentally in a scale tilted duct. The duct was 3.0 m long, 0.8 m wide and 1.0 m high. The inclination angle varied from 0° to 30° to the horizontal. A 1.5 kW electric heater was set up inside the duct. Air temperature distributions were measured. Further, two computational fluid dynamics packages were applied to simulate the heater-induced air flow with results compared with the measurements. Data obtained in this study will be useful for better understanding of hot smoke in tilted tunnel fires.
