ABSTRACT

The temperature and humidity control is required for thermal comfort in residential and commercial buildings. It is also indispensable for managing and maintaining the quality of products in factories or in warehouses. The required temperature and humidity will depend on the types of the demand, and therefore, it is necessary to choose an appropriate system according to the requirements of the demand type. The desiccant system removes the moisture by adsorption or absorption, and it is attractive because of the features such as the low driving temperature and non-use of environmentally hazardous materials. The desiccant system should be, however, optimally designed in response to the temperature and humidity requirements, especially if it is driven by finite energy resources. In the study, the air-conditioning demands of the facilities and the industrial processes are summarized using the psychrometric chart. Then, the performance of the electric driven desiccant system is predicted by simulation. The results show the suitable demand types for the electric driven desiccant system and the energy and cost saving potentials of the desiccant system.
