ABSTRACT
The clathrate hydrate slurry (CHS) is generated when tetra-n-butylammonium bromide (TBAB) aqueous solution is cooled down to lower than its phase equilibrium temperature. It is believed that TBAB CHS is very promising and efficient for cold storage because its solid-liquid phase change temperature is around 0-12 and the latent heat is also reasonably large. However, to generate CHS needs to subcool TBAB aqueous solution, which is similar to the solidification of phase change materials. Thus, it is necessary to reach a full understanding of the generation of CHS in order to promote the cold storage process so as to save energy. In the present study, we systematically carried out the CHS generation experiments to test the effectiveness of different methods. Many influential factors, such as subcooling, freshness of the aqueous solution, flow velocity, etc. were investigated, and the comparison of the cold storage in five cases was also conducted.
