Competence and its development need to be discussed in concrete terms on all the levels in the workplace. This is the responsibility of both individual employees and organizational leaders.
It is not always easy for technology professionals to communicate with people outside their field. Recognition of competence is a challenge that can be tackled by with regular documenting of competencies and development of managers’ leadership skills.
Human resources development needs to serve the needs of all employees throughout their careers. Diverse job descriptions, role rotation and more detailed descriptions of professional career paths support professional satisfaction and the recognition of competence requirements.
Collaborative learning is in demand in the workplace. Training involving both individual skills and the workplace culture is viewed as important and fulfilling. Interactive approaches between experts in different fields respond to competence development needs and help expand competences.
