Current R&D activities, sustained by the European Commission and by FP7 financial support are focusing on the development and standardization of new technologies to sustain the “Future Internet”. One of the paradigms proposed in this area is the “Internet of Things”. In this context, there is a necessity for the development of RFID compliant devices, the main enabler for the development of the Internet of Things infrastructure. The main objectives of this paper are to provide an overview of the current progress of Internet of Things oriented technologies and to propose a framework which will enable the transformation of real world objects into intelligent virtual objects and allow for a simplified robot to object interaction.
