PCBs (Polychlorinated Biphenyls), which are thermally stable and excellent at electric insulation, have been used for various purposes. However, PCBs were prohibited all over the world including Korea because of their properties such as toxicity, and biological accumulation. In spite of this prohibition, as the actual persistence of PCBs in environment was globally reported, many countries in the world including international organizations not only had great concerned about PCBs but also were carrying out a number of research papers about it. Consequently, as it became important to understand the pollution distribution and movement of PCBs to environmental media, a number of researches are actively under way in Korea. Therefore, this study aimed at selecting sediment which was the final destination of environmental pollutants to estimate the pollution distribution and pollution sources. In this study, the river system of Nakdong River, which has the largest basin area in Korea, was selected to study the pollution distribution and sources.
