Profile
Amaresh Chakrabarti is a Professor at CPDM, IISc. He has BE (Mech Engg, University of Calcutta), ME (Mech Design, IISc), and PhD (Engg Design, University of Cambridge, UK). He led for 10 yrs the Design Synthesis team at the EPSRC Centre for Excellence on Engineering Design at University of Cambridge before joining IISc as Associate Professor. He works in design creativity, eco-design and product informatics. He authored/edited 9 books, 250+ peer-reviewed articles, 8 patents granted/pending. He co-authored DRM, a methodology used internationally as a framework for engg design research. He is Assoc. Editor AI EDAM (CUP); Area Editor Res. in Engg Design (Springer), Regional Editor J Remanufacturing (Springer), and Advisory Editor for 7 Intl. Journals. He is on the Advisory Board of Design Society, UK, and CII National Committee on Design, India. He founded IDeASLab – the first lab in India for, and ICoRD – the first conf. series in India for design research. He is an Honorary Fellow of the Institution of Engg Designers (IED), UK, the first recipient from Asia to receive this highest honour by the IED for outstanding contribution to engineering design and its education.
