ABSTRACT

Relation between thc ILO/1EA Ergonomic checkpoint and intervention tools for improving small-scalc was workplaces was studied to know how to design practical workplaces.Method: The check items incorporated in action checklist of participatory workplace improvement progams applying the Ergonomic Checkpoints, icluding WISE(work improvement in small enterprises and Other methods, were analysed to reveal type of actions effective for improving existing conditions based on intervention studies. Results and discussion: Most action items in the participatory programs were those from multiple technical areas of the Ergonomic checkpoints. They represented low-cost improvements having impacts on both working conditions and productivity, including basic ergonomic principles in materials flow, workstation, physical and environment and teamwork.Intervention studies following these programs proved thc effectiveness of the action tools used, such as action checklists and low-cost guides. It is suggested to design action-oriented tools focusing on low-cost,productivlly- enhancing actions in improving small- scale workplaces.

Keywords: Ergonomic checkpoint, Small-scale workplaces, Action checklist, Participatory programs.
