ABSTRACT

Gamification is a process designed to achieve outcomes by influencing the actions, behaviours, states and opinions of entities through the use of games mechanics and methodologies. This paper seeks to provide an understanding of Gamification and its likely importance in the future of Human Factors Engineering (HFE) and to provide some useful models to assist HFE practitioners in designing solutions. It concludes that enabling technologies such as the Internet of things (IOT) and big data analysis and visualisation leveraged by Gamification strategies could transform HFE practices.
