Continuous measurement of intraocular pressure (IOP) is important for the detection and treatment of Glaucoma. However, current measurement techniques are not suitable for continuous monitoring due to the need for direct contact to the eye or deformation of the eye using air puff. In this paper, a non-contact IOP measurement method is described, using air-coupled capacitive micromachined ultrasound transducers (CMUT). The design and characterization of the CMUT transducer is presented for pulse-echo mode operating at a distance of 1~2cm. These preliminary results demonstrated the potential of the air coupled CMUT for IOP measurement, which has the advantage of miniaturization for a higher spatial resolution as well as a wearable device for point of care monitoring.
