ABSTRACT

With state-of-the-art technological advancement, an ever-increasing demand for commercial space in the central business districts and the desire of the building owners to construct prominent tall buildings, skyscrapers are emerging in most of the cosmopolitan cities providing an impressive skyline for the cities. Notwithstanding that these skyscrapers are dominating our skyline, architects, designers, engineers and contractors are facing unprecedented challenges in the construction of these mega-structures.

It must be understood that the above challenges are posing sophisticated and intricate considerations in the design, planning and construction of the vertical transportation system. This paper will highlight how the designers of vertical transportation system could overcome these difficulties to meet the needs and aspirations of our next generation. Innovative design, pioneering lift systems and associated ingenious installations and equipment will also be discussed in the paper.
