ABSTRACT

Six (6) levels of access and eighty two (82) number of lifts, four (4) of which double decked sound a lot in a building. Artur Au Yeung in his presentation will explain the necessity for the International Commerce Centre, the tallest building in Hong Kong with 231,000 m2 office and a 300-room 6-Star Hotel.

Robert Lam will focus on another super high-rise office building completed last year in Quarry Bay. One Island East is a 68-storey office building with a total gross floor area of about 140,000 m2. The talk will describe the vertical access within this tall building, particularly the use of sky lobbies and double-decker lifts. Emphasis will be placed on the design of the lobby spaces in directing and guiding the office user to the various lift zones in peak hours. The talk will also focus on the need for access to and from this super high-rise building and how the huge population generated from this type of building is dispersed into the mass transportation network.
