ABSTRACT

In this paper, a type of reinforced concrete composite perforated core wall with concealed steel truss is proposed. This new type of composite perforated core wall includes two schemes: combination of two bearing systems (i.e. truss and perforated core wall), and combination of two materials (i.e. steel and concrete). Two 1:6 scale specimens were designed, namely the normal reinforced concrete perforated core wall and the reinforced concrete composite perforated core wall with concealed steel truss. The experimental study on the seismic behaviour of the specimens subjected to combined action of compression, bending moment, shear and torque was then carried out and the load-carrying capacity, stiffness, ductility, hysteretic behaviour, energy dissipation and failure mechanism of them were also discussed. The experimental results showed that the seismic performance of the perforated core wall was greatly improved by adding the concealed steel truss. Based on the rotating-angle softened truss model theory, this paper presents a three-dimensional model for the analysis of reinforced concrete composite core wall with concealed steel truss subjected to complex loading. Good agreement between the calculation results and experimental results shows that the model is capable of not just determining the ultimate load-carrying capacity of the reinforced concrete composite perforated core wall with concealed steel truss, but also providing a basis for obtaining the entire load-deformation history.
