ABSTRACT

Nowadays, floor systems of tall buildings mostly adopt the compound floor frame structure, with the features of low weight and fitness for long span. As this kind of structure has the characteristic of low frequency and small damping ratio, under normal excitations such as human walking and jumping, the vibration of the floor system is appreciable. Therefore, the human comfort related to tall building floor vibration is an important issue which deserves much more attention. In this paper, several cases of floor vibration are analyzed. The equations of floor system (including beam and slab) vibration under human walking are introduced. Several kinds of evaluation norms for floor system vibration on human comfort are discussed. Some specific detection methods for floor vibration based on human comfort are proposed, with the analysis of examples from field measurement. Meanwhile, with the consideration of human comfort, different ways of reinforcement on compound floor system to control the vibration of the system are compared.
