ABSTRACT
With the development of modern society, more and more tall buildings with large space inside are built to meet different requirements in different fields. Usually these places always have high ceiling or big area, and they may also have different structures, shapes and functions compared with traditional buildings. In these places, the occurrence, development, and movement mode of fire, the factors influencing fire detection, such as space height and airflow or even the principle of fire detection, are quite different from those in traditional fields, and so is fire extinguishing. The solution of automatic fire detection and fire extinguishing in such space is always a big challenge and it becomes more and more important. To solve these problems, a brand new solution is proposed, which uses the video detection system (VDS) to detect fire and automatic self-aiming monitor (ASM) to extinguish fire. VDS is an image process based fire detection system, which uses Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras to capture video of the protection area, and analyzes the video by a set of professional software running on an industrial PC. When a fire occurs, VDS will provide visual alarm image and programmable relay outputs. ASM is an automatic self-aiming monitor system which can be triggered by a fire alarm signal (such as a relay output) to fulfill a self-organized fire extinguishing process. The integration of these two systems forms an intelligent, fast response, efficient and reliable system, and provides a simple but efficient solution. Details of the principles, features and designs of the system will be discussed in this paper.
