<title>ABSTRACT</title>
<p>Landslide is a geological phenomenon of ground movements in coastal,
offshore and onshore environments. These movements often result in rock
falls, deep failure of slopes and shallow debris flows. Despite the belief
that prevention is inevitably better than cure, curbing landslides require
proper knowledge from all stakeholders. This paper presents an overview on
landslides in Malaysia and seeks to understand the overall knowledge on
landslide issues particularly on Penang Island and how such tragedies can be
prevented. A total of 184 respondents participated in this survey. The
results indicated that the majority of the respondents have high knowledge
of landslides and how landslides happen. This has resulted in a take for
granted attitude towards landslides. The willingness to adopt slope control
methods is still also low among these respondents.</p> <p>Keywords: Landslide issues, Knowledge on landslides, Slope control. </p>
